Frequently Asked Questions
-
A: No. Unlike paint in years past, paints are monitored for content to ensure safety. We use low odor, low/no VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints that dissipate quickly. Your home will smell pleasantly like fresh paint for a few hours after painting and then the smell will fade. Because of this, we do the majority of our interior painting projects in the winter.

A: Because every job is different due to type of siding, age, condition, number of windows and doors, etc., we do not give estimates or “ballparks,” without looking at a job. Individual homeowner estimates are free and include specific details of what the homeowner can expect. We encourage homeowners to get comparable bids that include the same scope and materials and to check references of any paint contractor considered for hire.

A: Pressure-washing helps remove peeling paint, dirt and other debris and creates a clean surface that will increase the appearance and longevity of the new paint. While some hand-scraping may still be needed, pressure-washing is an efficient and affordable way to get the bulk of the prep work done.

A: We are always painting, but the summer is our only opportunity to paint exteriors in the Fairbanks area so we make them a priority. Our exterior season typically runs from May-September and our interior season from October-April. The shoulder seasons can vary depending on the weather and there can be some overlap where we’re doing a bit of exterior and interior jobs. If you’re interested in getting either exterior or interior painting done, it’s important to get on our schedule early!

A: Although the specific product will vary depending on the surface (interior, exterior, deck, etc), we like the performance of high-end Sherwin Williams paints that are sold exclusively at Sherwin Williams stores. The Sherwin Williams paints carried in the big box stores are a much lower quality of paint and not something we would recommend.

A: Assuming the weather cooperates, it takes our crew 3-4 days to paint a typical exterior. Larger, atypical homes may take a little longer.
